JOB SUMMARY
The Apprentice (Refrigeration or HVAC) provides support to an installation team by completing tasks in a safe, prompt, accurate, and professional manner and following customer specifications, applicable building code and proper piping practices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install equipment, in accordance with project requirements and under direction of a senior technician:
- Apprentice – HVAC: air handler drains, piping for split systems, overhead duct hangers and duct work, etc.
- Apprentice – Refrigeration: display case drains, walk in box drains, overhead hangers, and piping, etc.
- Perform all assigned work in a safe and responsible manner. Use power and hand tools, powered vehicles, machinery, and PPE as directed and required by Source, customer, and contract policy.
- Escalate problems and concerns (safety, quality of work, etc.) to on-site senior technicians or project managers promptly.
- Always maintain clean and professional jobsites/work areas. Properly store, disassemble, or remove all spare and waste materials created on assigned jobsites.
- Provide assistance and support to senior technician/s on a job.
- Carry out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical, and professional manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Installation of all types of piping including: Victaulic (grooved), threaded piping, PVC, copper (brazing or pro-press), pex, copper line sets
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Education or experience equivalent to a High school diploma, GED, or completion from trade program or technical school.
- 6 months to a 1+ years of experience in the construction, refrigeration, HVAC, or other related industry/trade preferred.
- Ability to operate a scissor lift or forklift preferred.
- Knowledge of jobsite safety, ability to perform work in accordance with safe work practices and rules.
- Ability to use basic power and hand tools including drills, fuel gas tools, electrical meters, measurement tools, etc.
- Ability to be punctual and dependable.
- Ability to work in a variety of working conditions, including scaling ladders to various heights, outdoors in hot/cold temperatures, in noisy environments, etc.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations including fractional addition/subtraction, multiplication, division, and measurements.
- Ability to read, write and communicate timely, clearly, and concisely.
- Ability to work constructively in a team environment and follow instructions from senior technician.
- Ability to understand and follow all company policies and procedures and all applicable State and Federal laws.
- Good driving record and willing to travel.

- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills as well as strong verbal and written communication skills; multi-lingual a plus

- Diagnose and replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machinery and associated equipment.
- Operate a cutting torch and or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts. Various Saws, drills, bench tools, and hand tools.
- Diligent in observations and inspections of the site machinery and facility and making recommendations for changes in procedures and structures, to ensure proper safety, and increase productivity and general effectiveness within our organization.
- Work closely with supervision and management and demonstrate the ability to be a team leader.
- Maintain the work area in a clean, safe, and orderly manner.
- Safety: Support implementation of the loss control improvement process by compliance with critical safety rules. Visibly demonstrate that safety is a value by following safety procedures, maintaining a safe workplace, and complying with safety rules. Skills and Experience:
- Repairs and maintains machines in the plant and office areas.
- Troubleshoot and maintain PLC.
- Reads and understands PLC Logic systems.
- Orders parts as needed.
- Installs, maintains and troubleshoots electrical systems and hydraulic systems.
- Familiar with boilers and boiler blow-downs.
- Performs carpentry, plumbing, painting, and drywall as needed.
- Trains and supervises the work of other maintenance employees.
- Previous experience with polyurethane foam systems and manufacturing is highly preferred.
- Previous experience with Lean and Six Sigma is a plus.
- Previous Leadership a plus.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
