SUMMARY OF PROGRAM:
This Electrician Apprenticeship program will consist of extensive classroom and on-the-job training over a 36-month period. Classroom instruction will cover basic theory, skills, tool knowledge, and Amtrak courses specific to the duties being performed. Upon Completion of Electrician Apprenticeship program participants will become Journeyman Electricians.
These duties, in accordance with FRA and Amtrak standards and guidelines, include but are not limited to:
- Cabling trains
- Troubleshooting electrical systems
- Repair electrical systems
- Cab signal testing
- Propulsion system maintenance
- HVAC
Shift hours during the Electrician Apprenticeship program are typically 8 AM – 4 PM, Monday -Friday with alternative shifts based on training curriculum needs. Upon completion of the program, shifts will be in accordance with the IBEW collective bargaining agreement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED
- Must successfully complete training and attain/retain certifications applicable to assigned
- Valid driver's license

The hourly rate is $27.94 (with opportunity for increases, as per the applicable collective bargaining agreement, after beginning employment). Maintenance Technician:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring equipment uptime through timely, in-depth troubleshooting and repair. The Maintenance Technician performs troubleshooting and repair of all production equipment including injection molders, blow molders, fillers/cappers, labelers, case packers, conveyors, palletizers, and stretch wrappers. The Maintenance Technician also performs troubleshooting and repair of facilities and auxiliary equipment, such as chillers, air compressors,

The Maintenance Technician works directly with machine Operators, Supervisors, Preventative Maintenance Mechanics and Sr. Maintenance Technicians to resolve mechanical issues that arise during shift. The Maintenance Technician proposes solutions to complex and reoccurring problems on production equipment to Sr. Mechanics and Management to resolve issues.
Essential Functions
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using schematics, technical drawings and testing equipment
Repair equipment, fixtures, systems, conveyors, and other equipment at facility
Modify, lubricate, diagnose, and operate equipment in accordance with Niagaras defined processes
Maintain industrial control systems
Work independently and with other team members to complete repairs in a safe and timely manner
May fill in for production operator as needed
Create and report repairs throughout shift. Complete required work order paperwork, document parts and material usage
Understand and follow plant safety rules including safe lifting practices and safe machine operation.

Job Summary
- Installs, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilating, air conditioning and steam distribution equipment and systems. Replaces, repairs or rebuilds, and adjusts valves, piping, steam traps, steam pipes, air dryers and compressors, convectors, and humidifiers. Cleans air handling units, checks fan/blower CFM, checks temperature of bearings, tests motors for amperage, voltage, and RPMs. Installs and repairs thermostats, sensors, controls (DDC), and motors. - Utilizes various diagnostic tools and equipment to inspect and test controls and systems and to locate malfunctions.
- Performs preventive maintenance to HVAC-related equipment. Changes belts and filters, grease motors, visually check compressors, pumps and other HVAC components. Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears and other parts of machinery. Rods out/cleans heat exchangers and tube bundles. Services forced air furnaces. Cuts, bends, threads, and connects pipe to functional components and water, power, or refrigeration system. Brazes or solders parts to repair defective joints and leaks. Mounts brackets and hangers into floor and walls of building. Fabricates and assembles structural and functional components of refrigeration system, using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.
- Charges system with proper type of refrigerant by pumping the specified gas or fluid into the system.
- May perform water treatments of closed loop water systems, cooling towers, chilled water and heating systems by collecting and testing water samples; add appropriate chemicals to maintain correct levels and balances.
- Assists in bidding and design work with manager. Trains apprentices and other personnel one-on-one as needed.
- Assists with snow removal activities as necessary.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including general building maintenance duties. Drives university vehicles as needed.
