Your Role:

The Lead Mechanical Implementation Engineer is responsible for implementing, commissioning, ramping up and optimizing of Monolith’s Core Technology systems which are critical to reliable operation of our manufacturing process. You will be the “eyes and ears” of the Core Technology team on the ground at our commercial scale plant and will be at the front lines of implementing new designs in the field, solving operational challenges, identifying optimization, and initiating design optimization together with the Mechanical Core Technology Design Center.

You Will:

  • Develop the applications procedures and lead the implementation of our Core Technology Reactor Systems which are critical to operation of our carbon black production:

  • High temperature gas mixing systems

    • Water cooled parts subject to extreme temperatures

    • Megawatt scale arc heating systems

    • High temperature furnace systems

    • Solid carbon conveying systems

  • Initiate and lead tasks 

    • Engage with stakeholders for the implementation of the Core Technology and conduct, FMEAs, HAZOP's and MoSc as required

    • Provide timely communication of any significant issues or developments

    • Document the roll-out and analysis in accordance with our implementation process

  • Define standards and be a role model to team members with less experience

    • Lead interdisciplinary teams in a matrix organization without the line responsibly

    • Help define standards for the greater Core Technology team and implementation these standards

  • Relay key operational and outage findings to the greater Core Technology team

    • Produce detailed documentation and any supporting data

    • Communicate findings and recommended course of action

  • Guide implementation to completion and lead integration into our commercial scale plant

    • Work with fabricators or suppliers to produce complex assemblies

    • Coordinate with Operations on installation and training

    • Commission and validate implementations in the field

    • Identify opportunities for increased reliability or cost reduction

  • Perform other duties as needed

You Have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

  • At least 5-10 years of work experience, or

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the job duties and responsibilities

  • Implemented mechanically complex technology and successfully commissioned complex systems

  • Strong understanding of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics

  • 3D CAD and 2D drafting experience, SolidWorks preferred

  • Strong understanding of machineability and manufacturability of components and complex assemblies

  • Strong hands-on skills with a willingness to troubleshoot equipment and "get dirty"

  • Have personally built, tested, and modified larger complex assemblies and successfully rolled-out into the field and derive optimization potential during roll-out

Work Environment:
