  • Performs work requiring an apprentice skill level of at least one of the following trades: electrical, plumber, HVAC/refrigeration mechanic, kitchen/laundry mechanic, carpenter, painter, locksmith, in addition to performing other general maintenance duties
  • Responsible for performance of all scheduled, preventive maintenance and emergency repairs for the primary trade, area of expertise
  • Provides training and assistance to subordinate engineering positions
  • Responds to trouble/complaint/maintenance request calls throughout the hotel and grounds when directed to do so by supervisor
  • May work with hazardous materials and chemicals in the performance of duties
  • Uses tools, equipment, materials and chemicals safely and efficiently according to manufacturer’s instructions/MSDS requirements
  • Checks clipboard and Maintenance Requests lists, daily for work assignments, at the beginning of and throughout each shift
  • Communicates status of job assignments and maintenance requests to supervisor
  • Notifies supervisor/dispatcher as required upon completion of work assignment
  • Completes appropriate records associated with work performed
  • Makes minor repairs to equipment brought into the shop
  • May assist/perform minor set-up duties for functions throughout the hotel and grounds

Maintain all building related systems and the building envelop to ensure the safety of hotel guests, associates and vendors.   • Complete and maintain University-wide campus utilization assessments.

    • Assure the maintenance of a working parts inventory of all parts needed for the department. Maintain and control the Tool Inventory to include proper securing, storage, use and function.
    • Painter workers are actively involved in their specialty skill in the repairs and maintenance of the facility and the conditions, equipment and devises therein.
    • Support the HotSOS work order system in implementation and adherence, including the prioritization of assigned work. Originate work orders to remedy problems and/or faulty conditions and assure the quality and timeliness of the remedial work.
    • Maintain open and professional communication between management and staff. Follow procedures in the use and maintenance of all communication equipment and devices.
    • Read, write and communicate instructional and other technical terms, details and concepts in the English language.
    • Support the facility’s Hazard Communication Program. This includes a thorough knowledge of MSDS, product labeling, storing and handling of materials etc.
    • Assist in execution and quality of the work assigned to the Engineering Maintenance team.
    • All activities, work, actions and time are documented in writing on a daily basis.
    • Assist in the motivation of employees toward the attainment of reasonable work goals.

    Education, Experience and Skill Requirements

    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a hotel/resort or directly related industrial or facility maintenance/painting required.

    • Be an Expert and have “Journeyman” certifications in one or more Facility Engineering disciplines and proficiency in all other aspects of engineering maintenance, as directed by management.
    • Must possess good communication and organizational skills with the ability to work with a variety of people.
    • The ability and experience to safely use power equipment and hand tools necessary to accomplish repairs and maintenance work.
    • Must possess sufficient stamina to work under all types of weather conditions and to lift, carry, push, and/or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials.

    The Engineer, Level 1, is responsible for ensuring that the property is maintained in the best possible condition at all times with the least amount of inconvenience to customers and employees.


    • Make repairs to hotel air conditioning system:  change filters, clean coils, replace motors.
    • Perform preventive maintenance on all equipment (i.e. boilers, chillers, HVAC-Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning, electrical, etc.).
    • Take required readings on equipment.
    • Test cooling tower and record readings.
    • Replace and program televisions as needed.
